THE GOOD DREDGE OPERATOR IS THE ONE WHO LEARNS  TO "FEEL" THE MATERIAL RESISTANCE AGAINST THE SUCTION NOZZLE IN THE DIRECTION HE IS SWINGING HIS ARC FROM SIDE TO SIDE AND AS HE MOVES AHEAD.  

THERE SHOULD BE TWO DREDGE OPERATORS WHO REGULARLY TRADE OFF WITH EACH OTHER THROUGHOUT THE SHIFT.    IT IS VERY TIRING BECAUSE CONSTANT MOVEMENT IS REQUIRED TO GET THE HIGHER VOLUME OF SOLIDS.  ONE OPERATOR WILL USUALLY BE BETTER THAN THE OTHER BUT YOU NEED TO GIVE THE DREDGE OPERATOR REGULAR BREAKS.
